1994
Storm King, South Canyon Fire, Colorado
On July 6, 1994, the South Canyon Fire, also known as the Storm King Fire, tragically claimed the lives of 14 wildland firefighters on Storm King Mountain near Glenwood Springs, Colorado. This devastating event highlighted the immense risks faced by wildland firefighters and underscored the need for greater support for those who dedicate their lives to protecting our natural landscapes. The tragedy served as a catalyst for the creation of the Wildland Firefighter Foundation, ensuring that no firefighter or their family faces these challenges alone.
1996
The Wildland Firefighter Foundation is Born
The Wildland Firefighter Foundation began as a grassroots movement to provide critical aid to firefighters injured in the line of duty. Over the years, it has grown into a nationwide nonprofit supporting thousands of families.
